Belfast Sports Awards 2015
Belfast Sports Awards celebrates the remarkable achievements of our local sports people. The awards also pay tribute to the efforts of our coaches, volunteers, mentors, teachers and parents who help make Belfast a healthy and active city.
The awards ceremony will be held at Belfast City Hall on Friday 27 March 2015.
Nominate someone for a sports award
There are several ways to nominate someone:
- nominate someone using our online form
- pick up a nomination form from your local leisure centre
- call us on 028 9027 0515 or email leisure@belfastcity.gov.uk and we will send you a nomination form.
Who can you nominate?
Nominate anyone who has positively contributed to sport, they can be:
Coach of the year - recognises the contribution of a club coach who supports sporting achievements and increases the participation of junior, senior, female or disabled athletes. Nominees must hold a recognised sports governing body qualification. Junior nominees must be under 18 years old and senior nominees must be at least 18 years old on 1 January 2015. If a coach is significantly involved with more than one group of athletes, you should only pick one group.
Active lifestyle - recognises an individual or group going the extra mile to promote health, physical activity and sport in Belfast. They should have made a positive impact on raising the profile and increasing awareness of the health benefits of sport and physical activity.
Lord Mayor’s volunteer of the year - recognises the unsung heroes of sport. Nominees should be volunteering within a sports club or a community organisation involved in sport or physical activity. They should not be part of the coaching team. This could include a parent who drives the team to and from matches, or someone who raises funds to support the club.
Sports facility- recognises the efforts of a Belfast facility that promotes sports development, active participation and a healthy lifestyle. The award will focus on a venue that is making a difference by creating activities to encourage everyone to get active.
Sports personality of the year - recognises the achievements of both junior and senior sporting heroes in the international arena. Athletes should have gained significant honours and success within the last 12 months. Junior nominees should be under the age of 18 and senior nominees over the age of 18 on 1 January 2015.
Sporting hall of fame - recognises the achievements of Belfast sports people in the international sporting arena. This could include anyone who has a made significant contribution to sport in Belfast, a retired athlete or an athlete who is currently competing and has achieved significant success in their sport.
