Naomh Treasa v Shane Uí Néill - Sunday 11th May 2014 – 7.00pm - Pairc
MhicDhomhnaill/ÚiDhoctairtigh Referee : Glenarm
St
Teresa’s welcomed visitors Glenarm to the Glen Road for this Sunday
evening clash and the specectators were treated to a good competitive
encounter.
Playing
against a slight breeze, Glenarm started the better, with quick with
points from, Barry Hamill and Darren Hamill, slotting over two quick
points. St Teresa’s
responded stoutly and good points from Dual players, Philly Maguire and
Stevie Carey, brought St Teresa’s level. Glenarm stormed back into the
lead with a goal from midfielder Paddy McAuley; D Hamill then scored
his second to put Glenarm ahead, 1-3 to 0.2,
after 10mins. Another fine Carey point from 60 metres reduced the score
to 3 points, but Glenarm replied with another point from Hamill.
Maguire pointed a 65 before Barry Hamill knocked over another for
Glenarm to leave the scores 1.5 to 1.4 after 15 mins.
SuperTees then burst into life following a great goal from Conor McCann,
when he coolly rounded the keeper having disposed the fullback. St
Teresa’s had settled and O’Hara, Johnston, and Devine were starting to
dominate at the back, hold the Glenarm attack
at bay. Maguire scored another 65 to level the score and with the game
20 mins old a searching Devine pass found Jordan McAllister to slot the
sliothair over the bar. St Teresa’s were in front for the first time.
McAllister
was unfortunate to hit the upright shortly afterwards and Gallagher was
unlucky not to received a couple of frees in front from the Glenarm
referee. The
impressive Glenarm half forward, Dylan McLaughlin slotted over 2 quick
frees to put Glenarm back in front as the first half came to a close.
But it was Supertees that had the final say, when Colm Mc Goldrick stroked home a
great goal, following great combination play
from Maguire, Devine, Conor O Rawe, Darren McCann, Power and McAllister!
HALF-TIME: Naomh Treasa 2- 6 v 1.7 Shane Uí Néill
Pensioners,
Danny Maguire and Gerry Sands kept the St Teresa’s supporting faithful
entertained at half-time, with stories of what times were like playing
Gaelic before
the war, the Boer war that is, however, It was not a patch on the
teamtalk that Manager Maher must have given at halftime. St Teresa’s
bolted from the whistle, with 2 early points from Gallagher, following
fantastic work from the returning Aussie, Boomerang
Brian. Curran himself scored the next point followed by another great
point from McAllister. Then the first of two goals in two minutes.
Bannus thundered the ball to the back of the net, following excellent
work from Maguire, Power, Carey and McAllister.
3-10 to 1.07 St Teresa’s led. But yet more was to come and the
industrious Gallagher, with brilliant individual skill found the net
again. 4.10 to 1.7 with only five minutes of the half gone. For a brief
second, St Teresa’s almost resembled CLARE! This 12
point lead would be a tough hurdle to overcome for Glenarm. They
battled bravely with McLaughlin scoring the next four points (2 from
frees) to reduce the scores to seven (4-10 to 1.11). Aaron Rooney, had
been moved to corner forward, increased the lead by
to nine. And Hamill responded again for Glenarm. St Teresa’s were
playing well all over the park and rattled home another three points, a
Philly Maguire free; a superb Curran point following a 30 yard run
following a great pass from O’Hara; another Rooney
point after great work from McCann and O’Rawe. Glenarm keeper pulled
off a great save from Curran before Maguire sent another 65 over the
bar. Glenarm midfielder Barry Hamill pulled a goal back for his team,
but it was to no avail, as Rooney finished the
game for the rampant homeside, with two more good individual points.
Credit to Glenarm, who had to give up their fullback as the offical
referee was a no show.
