Naomh Treasa v Lamh Dhearg - Wed 4 June 7.30pm - Lamh Dhearg Referee : Garrett Duffy
St Teresa’s travelled to Hannahstown hoping to consolidate their recent home successes. Playing with a strong cold breeze the home side were quick to assert their dominance and raced into a two point lead and keeper Cassidy made a good early save to stop the score from being more and the fullback line of Duggan, Hamill and O’Rawe, where marshalling the Lamh Dhearg forwards well. A Maguire point from a free got the Super Tees on the scoreboard. The Glen Roadmen settled more into the game but scoring opportunities were difficult, shooting into a strong swirling wind. Lamh Dhearg were awarded a free and pointed from it before Maguire hit back with another point to reduce the deficit back to one at three points to two. Carey, Power, McCann and McAllister were combining well, but scores were hard to find, dropping short of the Lamh Dhearg goal. The homeside then found a purple patch, rattling home 2-2 in a five minute period to lead 2-5 to 0.2. St Teresa’s backs of O’Hara, Johnston and O’Rawe hurled well to keep the homeside at bay and Carey scored a great individual point just before halftime to leave the scores 2-5 to 0-3 at halftime.
HALF-TIME: Lamh Dhearg 2-5 Naomh Treasa 0-3
The homeside, led by their man of the match, Micky Herron bolted from the start and scored two goals in the opening minutes of the half to lead by 14 points. A facile victory looked on the cards for the homeside, but the Glen Road men are of sterner stuff. Good work from Johnstonfound Gallagher in space and he slotted over sweetly form 40yeards. Carey and Power combined again well for sub Aaron Rooney to score a good point. Rooney then blasted the ball to the net after great work by Gallagher and Curran. This was looking more like the Super Tess with Devine starting to win midfield. Good switch play between Devine and McAllister brought about a rare St Teresa’s free and Maguire again slotted over. 4-6 to 1-7 the home team led halfway through the second period. Then against the run of play and some bizarre refereeing decisions, Lamh Dhearg began to find some open space hit back with a goal and a point, which was against the run of play, to lead 5-7 to 1-7. 12 points down and still the St Teresa’s men fought on. O’Hara, O’Rawe, Johnstonand Devine leading the overworked St Teresa’s defence, combined to put Power in for his second point of the game. Gallagher and Curran were ruling the ring wing and another Maguire free followed. With 5 minutes left, St Teresa’s trailed 5-8 to 1-9. The industrious Gallagher won an overdue free and Maguire again slotted over. Great work by Irwin, Gallagher and Maguire allowed Rooney to nip in for his second goal to give the Super Tees a lift.. Two well deserved points from Curran and McAllister before the full-time whistle blew, ended the brave St Teresa’s fight back and Lamh Dhearg held on for a deserved win by four points.
