St Teresa’s travelled to near neighbours St Agnes,
in a bid to secure their Division 3 status. League trailers, St Agnes on the
back foot from the get go with the Glen
Road men hungry in attack with Anto Varndell
rattling the crossbar in the opening minutes. Good work from Banis
McGoldrick saw Philly Maguire opening the scoring. The home side replied
almost immediately with a good distance strike from centre-half Chris McKee. St
Agnes seen a few long range shots go wide, before the visitors upped a
gear. Brendy Power combined well with Anton Taylor who sweetly pointed
from 35 yards. Stevie Carey made a fantastic catch in midfield and passed
to Maguire who scored again from 45 yards out. McKee scored another long
range point back from a free before Maguire passed to Carey who pointed from 55
yards. Carey then turned provider to Paul McGoldrick, who scored a neat
point having held his marker up well. 0-5 to 0-2. St Teresa’s were
dominating all over the park, with Sean Devine, Robbie Gallagher and
Steve O’Hara holding fort in the back lines abley assisted by the O’Rawe
brothers and Janty. Another point for the visitors soon followed with the
classy Banis setting up Maguire for his third point of the day. In the
next attack Gerard O’Rawe combined with varndell to set Taylor up for a fantastic point from a very
tight angle. 0-7 to 0-2 the vistors led. However, the home team
were far from finished; another long ball from their enigmatic centre-half
McKee, into the St Teresa;s box allowed Kevin Grieve to flick the sliothair
past goalkeeper Aaron Rooney. A free from 80yards from McKee saw the home
side pull back the deficit to a point. 0-7 to 1.3. A second point from
the impressive Carey followed great hurling between O'Hara,Gallagher and
Maguire, before McKee struck another point for St Agnes. McKee again
scored yet another long range point for the home side
before, Carey and Banis combined to put Maguire in for another
point. Goalkeeper Rooney found Gallagher with a good puck out , who moved
the ball onto the industrious Varndell who sored a well deserved point.
The Aggies kepper then pulled off a good save from Conor McCann, before McKee
scored another for Naomh Una to keep them in the tie, only 2 points behind at
the break.

The second half started brightly for the visitors with Taylor, McGoldrick and
Power troubling the Aggies defence before Maguire scored from a free after
Power was fouled. St Teresa's backs were hurling well with the solid
Devine, O Hara and Johnstone proving impenetrable and darting runs from the
O'Rawe brothers and Gallagher keep feed the SuperTess attack. After 7
minutes of the half, crafty attacker, Paul McGoldrick, finally got the goal
he'd been wanting all evening, after Johnstonfound him he space and McGoldrick rounded his marker and sweetly hit the back
of the net from 20 yards. Johnstonthen combine with the brilliant Banis in midfield to set Maguire up for another
point. Shortly afterwards it was goal number 2 for McGoldrick, who got
onto a rebound after great play from Taylor, Varndell and Maguire. 2-12 to 1-5
and the game look complete. St Agnes responded with 3 unanswered points
from McKee and McClean. St Teresa's responded in fine
fashion with Devine finding Maguire who pointed from the resultant free
on him. O'Rawe and Taylor hurled well to find Gallagher who scored a well
deserved point from 70 yards. Maguire added another thanks more magic
from the McGoldrick's. This purple patch wasn't over, as Devine and
Gallagher put young power through for a great goal. He should have had a
second goal moments later, but then redeemed himself (and his hysterical father
on the sideline!) with a fine point following good hurling from O'Rawe and
O'Hara. In fading light and the game was almost over, St Agnes man of the
match, Chris McKee, scored his last point and then Maguire for Naomh Treasa
scored his 10th and last of the game after good work from Carey and O'Rawe.
